Description

While cryptocurrencies have struggled in the past year, blockchain and the Distributed Ledger Technology it is based upon continues to receive focus. The technology is still relatively new but there are already use cases in action with many more trials across a wide range of industries and government. As blockchain matures as a technology, the challenges now are becoming much more pragmatic. Concerns include: - Balancing security, scalability and decentralisation; - Integrating blockchain technology into proper applications involving elements such as user management, APIs and user interfaces; - How blockchain and distributed ledgers can support IoT and AI applications; - And how regulation of blockchain technology needs to develop beyond the fintech environment. Join thought leaders and business leaders at the cutting edge of this maturing technology, to understand how to avoid the hype and where blockchain really can be used to greatest effect in your business. 14:00 – 15:10 – The blockchain ecosystem today: Successes, flaws and promise Blockchain is a painfully young technology with some impressive potential, as the internet was 30 years ago. Like the internet, blockchain will need to move from being the domain of experts to something which anyone can use. Join our panel as they explore the nature of blockchain technology today, asking what needs to be done for blockchain to make that leap forward. Are the answers purely about technology, and who can make a difference? 15:10 – 16:15 – Regulation and governance for blockchain With questions arising in different contexts about privacy, transparency and more, there is a need to examine how blockchain can, and should, coexist with national regulations. Meanwhile, although the governance of any given blockchain can come under detailed scrutiny, we also look at the global blockchain ecosystem, to ask whether, and in what ways, the industry should be looking to govern itself? Could there be a sensible parallel with global internet governance structures? If so, what might that look like? 16:15 - 17:15 – Blockchain for telecoms There is a good argument that blockchain is better suited to telecoms networks than the open internet. Telecoms networks are subject to regulation and face demands for service-level management, transparent billing and settlement which the internet doesn’t face. We bring out the best of blockchain use cases from across APAC and internationally, asking whether telco blockchain can act as an incubator for the wider blockchain environment. 17:15 – 17:30 – Blockchain predictions and conclusions As we reach the end of the Summit, we ask our experts to make some predictions for the coming 12 months. What will the most significant moves be, and is it what the blockchain ecosystem needs to see? And, based on the discussions during the day, what actions will our speakers, and the audience, take?
