Ayush Sharma comes with over 20 years of global industry leadership experience covering technical strategy, managing the new business, engineering and service delivery, and has produced remarkable outcomes including first commercial SDN controller, Wi-Fi Calling Platform and designing world’s largest networks.
At Sterlite Tech, Ayush oversees a newly formed business unit focused on Programmable Networking and Artificial Intelligence. In this strategic role, he is responsible for developing and driving new business growth through advanced technologies (5G, SDN, NFV & AI) engineering and adoption by leveraging open innovation and customer-centric R&D. He is actively involved in steering the industry’s direction through open specifications and promoting open source adoption. Being one of the founding members of Open SDN movement, he held several board level and influential positions at both open source and industry bodies.
Most recently, as Senior Vice President of Engineering & Technology at Reliance Jio, Ayush took lead in balancing advanced technology development and managing new technology adoptions through strong partnerships with vendors, academia and open source bodies.
Prior to Reliance Jio, he held technology executive positions at Huawei and Ericsson leading global teams developing, standardizing and deploying new technologies. During his early career, he held several technical leadership positions at Cisco Systems globally within its advanced services group, where he led design and deployment efforts. He was one of the early members of a startup company called Nexagent (acquired by HP) in the UK that changed the landscape of software-driven SLA industry.
Right from putting the first router in the space to driving large-scale technology adoption projects for more than 20 telecom and cloud companies globally, his passion for putting innovation to commercial use and for the betterment of society remains intact. He has a proven, consistent, unmatched record of building new products, platforms, and networks that have shaped the modern ICT industry.
Ayush attended Stanford’s executive management program and holds a Master’s degree in Data Communications and has graduated from Brunel University in London. He also holds multiple industry certifications and serves on open source boards within the Silicon Valley. Throughout his career, he lived and worked in three different continents (Asia, Europe, and North America) and is well connected and known in the industry globally.
